The counter at the Fountain Coffee Room
Go at an odd hour. The stools turn over slowly at noon.
Down the stairs from the lobby of the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Fountain Coffee Room has kept its curved counter and nineteen stools since 1949, under the banana-leaf wallpaper the hotel is known for. It serves breakfast and lunch from the counter, and nothing has been changed that did not need to be.
A note on the place, and an illustration, until Michael’s own are ready.
