Our aim
We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, keyboard navigation, magnification, voice control or captions. We aim for it to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
How the site is built
The work is in the pages themselves: headings and landmarks that describe each page, text alternatives for images, labeled form fields and controls, everything operable from a keyboard, and text with enough contrast to read. The site follows your device’s reduce-motion setting.
There is no overlay or widget to switch on. The site is built to work with the assistive technology you already use.
How we test
Every page is checked against WCAG Level A and AA rules with automated tests, and the MLS search, the photograph galleries and the forms have also been tested by hand with a keyboard alone. Automated checks find only some barriers: when we learn of one they missed, we fix it.
Known limitations
Some parts of the site are not yet fully accessible, and some come from others:
- Videos. Some property films and press videos do not have captions.
- Photographs of Michael’s houses. Each is named by its house’s address rather than described one by one.
- MLS listings. Photographs and descriptions of homes listed by other brokerages come from the multiple listing service, and its photographs do not carry descriptions.
- The search map. The map can be hard to use with a screen reader. Every home it shows is also in the list beside it, with its price, figures and address.
- Other providers. Virtual tours, video players, the Google map on some property pages and the Coldwell Banker home estimate follow their providers’ own accessibility.
If any of this keeps you from information you need, tell us and we will get it to you another way.
Report a barrier
If anything on this site is hard to see, hear, read or operate, tell us at michael@michaelcollins.com or 310-413-1100: which page, and what happened. We will fix it where it is ours to fix, and get you the information or service another way in the meantime.
